The boys and I left Haiti on July 11 and came to San Diego to stay with my best friend. Food was starting to run scarce and we were running out of formula for our little one, so we decided the best thing to do was to leave and for H to stay. Fortunately a day or two after we left, RSO began organizing supermarket trips, but since we did not know how long the shelter in place would last, nor if any protests would sporadically start up again, we determined it was best for our family to get out. So we did.
Fortunately, things have stabilized and it sounds like the country is getting back to normal. The PM stepped down, which seemed to appease the opposition political parties, who we surmised would keep up the violence until they removed the president, but that has not been the case. We are hopeful that we can go back home as early as this weekend.
Meanwhile, we are eating our way through sunny San Diego. I’ve treated the kids and myself to California Burritos, frozen yogurt, and Wienerschnitzel so far. We might end up at the beach or aquarium or brewery or Balboa Park before we go.
That’s the entire update for now. Maybe someday I’ll list out all of the rumors from the past week. For lack of a better word, it’s been quite an exciting last few days or so.
